The Changelog podcast discussed my article on how the decades-long tech consolidation is finally reversing. In the post I argue that technology went through a long phase dominated by consolidation. My optimistic view is that this era is ending: the tech monoculture is cracking, and experimentation, personality, and fun are creeping back in through new hardware, platforms, and tools. At Twilio, I led work on an internal OpenSearch-based platform that helped Consumer Trust teams investigate fraud, spam, account takeover, and terms-of-service violations across customer usage data.

I presented the architecture and operational lessons to several hundred participants, including how we handled sensitive data access, SAML authentication, privileged reviewer roles, audit logging, high-cardinality search, ingestion latency, cluster sizing, indexing behavior, monitoring, and predictable traffic spikes. The exact data volumes and internal details are not public, but the talk centered on the practical challenges of building secure, reliable search infrastructure for compliance-sensitive workflows at Twilio scale.
